ECAS is very excited to offer adoption from Guatemala as one of
our programs. Guatemala is a Central American country bordering
Mexico and Belize. Guatemala remains as one of the most popular
countries for Americans hoping to adopt internationally because
of the close proximity to the US, availability of healthy infants,
simple and relatively quick adoption process as well as very brief
and comparatively inexpensive travel. Since 2003 more than 2300
children are adopted annually from Guatemala.
The adoption from Guatemala is completed by proxy (permission granted
to attorneys through Power of Attorney from adoptive parent). Our
experienced team works closely with reputable attorneys in Guatemala
that have years of adoption experience. Together they successfully
helped more that 1000 beautiful infants and children from Guatemala
in finding a loving family in USA. After children are relinquished
for adoption they are cared for by experienced foster families in
Guatemala until the completion of the adoption.
Once an adoptive family’s dossier is complete prospective
parents are eligible to receive an official referral of a child.
The total process to complete an adoption from Guatemala is estimated
from 7-10 months, including time required for the home study completion
and BCIS approval.

~~~DISCLAIMER~~~
The Hague Treaty is targeted to be ratified on February
15th, 2008 in the United States. Guatemala is in the process of
making required changes to become compliant with the Hague Treaty
so that adoptions can continue with the United States. Currently
adoptions are proceeding in Guatemala. We are accepting applications
for the Guatemala program but are cautioning families of the risks
of delay (beyond the typical 6-9 month timeframe) in processing
the adoptions due to increased scrutiny by the United States Embassy
and changes being made in Guatemala. If for any reason adoptions
are suspended in Guatemala clients should be willing to transfer
to other adoption programs through ECAS. We encourage you to call
Amber at 763-694-6131 for more information on the details regarding
the situation with Guatemala and to keep you updated on any changes.
